Poroshenko tells OSCE envoy he insists on soonest possible Contact Group meeting
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has met with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ambassador Heidi Tagliavini, to the Trilateral Contact Group promoting the Ukrainian peace process, the presidential press service reports.
"Petro Poroshenko noted the major role of the Trilateral Contact Group and expressed a hope that Heidi Tagliavini would continue her important mission in spite of the end of the Swiss presidency of the OSCE. The Ukrainian president underlined that the Trilateral Contact Group should meet as soon as possible in order to achieve a ceasefire by December 9," the report said.
It said the special envoy had declared her intention to remain within the Trilateral Contact Group and continue her work.
"Heidi Tagliavini stressed that the Minsk agreements, i.e. the September 5 Protocol and the Memorandum signed on September 19, 2014, were the foundation of the Donbas peace process and must be honored by all sides," the report said.
The president and the OSCE envoy agreed to coordinate their further efforts to foster the implementation of the peace plan for Donbas.
