Fire at ZAZ car plant caused by safety violations, says UkrAVTO

A preliminary investigation into a fire at Zaporizhia-based CJSC ZAZ car plant on Thursday indicates it broke out due to safety violations by an employee at an automobile paint and chemicals warehouse.
As Interfax-Ukraine learned from the press service of the UkrAVTO corporation, which incorporates CJSC ZAZ, the employee tried to stop a leak from a lacquer barrel, causing a chemical reaction and fire at the warehouse.
"That employee was the most badly injured, and the corporation is doing its best to take measures to save his life," the press service said.
According to the source, Friday will be a day off at the plant due to the need investigate the accident and conduct the necessary safety measures.
As reported, the fire, which spread over an area of 300 square meters at ZAZ on Thursday, has been contained. Four people were injured, one of them with serious burns. All of the injured were rushed to an emergency care center in Zaporizhia.
