First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Vitaliy Yarema has stated the need to reform the law enforcement system in the country, noting that it would be good to borrow the experience of Poland in the process.

In an interview with the ICTV channel, Yarema reported that he has held consultations with several ambassadors and the heads of law enforcement agencies in Western countries.

"I liked the way law enforcement authorities were reformed in the Polish republic," he said.

"You know, over four years the rating of police among the public has increased from 17% to 70%. They performed very serious reforms, and I liked it, and today we are likely to follow their example. I have already appealed to the leadership of the Interior Ministry [of Poland] so that they give us the opportunity to send experts to study the situation. This also concerns the system of education of law enforcement officers and serve in general, and recruitment," said the official.

He said that the matter also concerns the use of polygraphs.

"We should not be afraid of these modern technical means during recruitment," said Yarema.
