The Ukrainian government plans to purchase about 60,000 tonnes of fertilizers through the Agrarian Fund in 2014, reads a statement posted on the Web site of the Cabinet of Ministers, citing Acting Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov.

"The decline in the gas price should have a positive effect on the price of mineral fertilizers, as well as contribute to resuming the work of chemical plants. This year the government plans to purchase about 60,000 tonnes of fertilizers through the Agrarian Fund. I hope that their price will not exceed UAH 3,360 per tonne," Arbuzov's press office quoted him as saying.

According to the report, the government is also considering raising funds from the U.S. Export-Import Bank for Ukragroleasing to provide farmers with affordable technology.

The Cabinet of Ministers expects a gross harvest of over 62 million tonnes in 2014, the growth in world grain prices, and the geographic expansion of exports.
