Opposition asking Cox, Kwasniewski not to submit negative report on Ukraine

Leaders of three opposition factions have asked members of the European Parliament's monitoring mission, former President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox, not to submit to the European Parliament a negative report on the situation in Ukraine ahead of the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius.

"We have asked the Cox-Kwasniewski mission not to present a negative report," Leader of the Batkivschyna faction Arseniy Yatseniuk said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that the leaders of the three opposition factions in Ukraine's parliament asked Cox and Kwasniewski to report Ukraine's readiness to address three outstanding matters - the bills on the prosecutor's office, parliamentary elections and the release of imprisoned former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

As reported, Cox and Kwasniewski are finishing their visit to Ukraine. They will present the final report of their mission at a meeting of the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament on November 13.
