The Party of Regions has not yet considered the bill by the party's MP, Vadym Kolesnichenko, proposing abandoning the European integration policy of Ukraine and is unlikely to support it, the Segodnya newspaper quoted one of the leaders of the Party of Regions Mykhailo Chechetov as saying.

"This is personal opinion of the lawmaker. The faction has not considered the bill yet and most likely, it will not support it because it does not coincide with the foreign policy line of the president and the government," the politician said on Wednesday.

However, Chechetov considers logical Kolesnichenko's idea about the need to hold a referendum on the matter of the association with the European Union: "It is necessary to recognize that from a legal point of view, Kolesnichenko's position is invulnerable because he appeals to the will of the people in the key issues for the country." "Any integration requires the country to give up part of their sovereignty, and the people should decide, to whom they are ready to concede this part of the sovereignty or that they will not give it up at all," the MP said.

As reported, Kolesnichenko registered a bill on amendments to the law on the principles of domestic and foreign policy and the law on the foundations of national security, proposing withdrawal of a clause about Ukraine's strategic objective is to join the European Union.
