Party of Regions protests against actions by opposition near parliament on April 2

The Party of Regions has strongly protested against the actions of opposition representatives on Tuesday, April 2, outside the building of the Verkhovna Rada, the party's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The opposition has moved from fascist slogans to brutality and terror. A democratic rally in central Kyiv, which was organized by opposition leaders, turned into hooliganism that posed a threat to the life and health of people. Hiding behind the law on elections in the [Ukrainian] capital, without explaining any goals and essence of their actions to the protesters and failing to ensure solidarity in voting in their own ranks, these political extremists found nothing better to do than to vent their anger on defenseless women," reads the statement.

"Youngsters, incited by their leaders, inflicted bodily injuries on women deputies from the Party of Regions, and threw stones and lumps of soil and ice at them. Among the victims are Iryna Horina, Iryna Berezhna and Yulia Liovochkina. Horina sustained a concussion, and she is in hospital. The Party of Regions will not leave this incident without attention, and is demanding that law enforcement agencies find these bad people and make a proper legal assessment of their evil deeds," reads the statement.

The Party of Regions said that "the responsibility for excesses and outright atrocity lies with those who brought people to the streets."
