Gazzaev: Budget of unified football league projected at EUR 1 b, not at $1 b

The director of the Unified Football Championship organization, Valery Gazzaev, has said that the budget of a unified league clubs of Russian and Ukrainian clubs is projected at EUR 1 billion, rather than $1 billion.

"The target budget is EUR 1 billion, rather than $1 billion. The money will primarily come from the games. Our analysts monitored the matches that could definitely attract a large number of spectators. Television rights are the second [source of funds], and sponsorship the third," he said on the Profootball program on 2+2 TV Channel late on Sunday.

As reported, Unified Football Championship was founded on December 26, 2012 on the initiative of a number of clubs in the Russian Premier League. The supervisory board of the organization includes FC Anji Makhachkala owner Suleiman Kerimov, CSKA President Yevgeny Giner and Zenit St. Petersburg President Alexander Dyukov. President of the Russian Premier League Sergei Pryadkin was elected head of the supervisory board.

The strategy of the proposed tournament was announced at a meeting of the organization in Moscow on February 18. Representatives of 14 clubs of the Russian Premier League, Premier League President Sergei Pryadkin, Acting Director General of the Ukrainian Premier League Petro Ivanov and a representative of Ukraine's FC Tavriya Simferopol attended the meeting.

The director of the Unified Football Championship, Gazzaev, said that the unified league's budget would be $1 billion. He said that it was planned that the championship would be held for the first time in the 2014/2015 season and that 18 teams would participate in it (the nine strongest Russian and Ukrainian teams in the 2013/2014 season).
