Lukash: Proposed changes to law on government to streamline work of vice premiers and minister of Cabinet of Ministers

The Ukrainian government's proposed amendments to the law on the Cabinet of Ministers are aimed at streamlining the work of deputy prime ministers and minister of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Olena Lukash has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The introduction of amendments to this law is related to the need to streamline the organization of work of the first deputy prime minister, deputy prime ministers and the minister of the Cabinet of Ministers, and is designed to resolve a number of technical issues," she said.

Lukash said that at present she officially has no deputies and that it is impossible to appoint them without the adoption by parliament of the proposed government changes.

"When these changes are made, I will be able to appeal to the president to appoint deputies for me," she said.

As reported, on January 8, 2013 the government registered in parliament a bill introducing amendments to the law on the Cabinet of Ministers, which proposes that the first deputy prime minister and deputy prime ministers be allowed to have patronage services and that the mechanism for the fulfillment of tasks by deputy prime ministers be determined by the president.

At the same time, the bill envisages the right of the minister of the Cabinet of Ministers to have the first deputy head and deputy heads, who are appointed and dismissed by the Ukrainian president under a motion of the prime minister.
