Former Ukrainian Justice Minister Lukash remains in custody - lawyer

Former Ukrainian Justice Minister Olena Lukash remained in custody on Monday morning despite bail having been paid, lawyer Yuriy Ivaschenko told Interfax-Ukraine.

"She is still in custody," the lawyer said, adding that the defense team was doing its best to free Lukash but that red tape was stalling her release.

Ivaschenko said that Lukash might be released before noon.

The Ukrainian Security Service detained Lukash, who served at justice minister under the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, on November 5. Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office prosecutor Vladyslav Kutsenko said at a press briefing that they had gathered information that might prove Lukash's involvement in major embezzlement and fraud.

The Kyiv Pechersky District Court ordered on November 6 that the former minister be taken into custody and set bail at UAH 5.116. Ukrainian MP Vadim Novinsky from the Opposition Bloc faction paid the bail on the same day.
