The Batkivschyna and UDAR parliamentary factions will not support the candidacy of Ihor Sorkin for the position of governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

"Certainly we won't vote," Batkivschyna MP Oleksandr Turchynov told journalists in the parliament on Thursday.

He added that "the central bank is subordinated to the president and now they are just changing its head, while the essence won't change and they will keep using the devastating practice of wasting the country's gold reserves."

UDAR Leader Vitali Klitschko told journalists that his faction would not vote for Sorkin either.

"We won't vote. The government does not want to report on its previous activities," he said.

On January 9, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych nominated Sorkin for the position of the NBU governor.

Sorkin has been working as deputy head of the central bank since July 15, 2010. Before that he headed the banking supervision department at the NBU's branch in Donetsk region.

The NBU governor is appointed and dismissed by parliament on theproposal of the Ukrainian president. The NBU head is appointed for seven year.
