Destruction caused by Russia to Ukraine's energy infrastructure does not pose threat to EU energy security –

The European Commission says that the deliberate destruction caused by Russia to the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, including the above-ground facility of the underground gas storage facility, does not pose a risk to the energy security of the European Union.
This is how the European Commission commented on information about the possible destruction of the Ukrainian gas storage facility by the Russians in Brussels on Thursday.
"We have been informed about this latest attack on the above-ground facility of this underground gas storage facility in western Ukraine yesterday. And we are in continuous contact with Ukraine and in talks to assess the precise extent, first of all, of the damage, but also any indications to the security supply situation in Ukraine. According to our latest information that we have on this, there are no immediate risks for the EU security of gas supply," said European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.
She also said that the European Commission, together with the Energy Community Secretariat, continues to closely monitor the situation.
At the same time, she noted that the EU has been observing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for more than two years now. "We deplore Russia's relentless attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The Ukrainian energy system is under extraordinary pressure following the surgical relentless attacking by Russian armed forces. And it is foreseen, unfortunately, that Russia will likely continue targeting critical energy infrastructure. The EU is ready and prepared to help. We continue to stand by the Ukrainian people, and we continue to offer unprecedented amount of support to this regard," Itkonen added.
