Ukrenergo restores over 10,000 km of power lines during period of Russian attacks

Ukrenergo's 70 mobile repair teams, including 1,500 specialists, are working to restore the power system after enemy shelling, and have repaired more than 10,000 km of power lines, the company said.
As Ukrenergo noted in a presentation on its website on Friday, of all damaged facilities, and they account for 43%, 70% have been partially restored and returned to work.
"Ukrainian power engineers were given an unprecedented challenge - no energy system in the world has experienced such destruction from massive shelling. The work of Ukrenergo specialists and all power engineers has turned into a mission: to restore the energy system under any conditions and return light to people," the comments to the presentation say.
Ukrenergo also noted that it was thanks to the courage and professionalism of Ukrainian power engineers that since February 12, 2023, electricity consumption in the country is almost not limited. Although before that, within four months from the start of massive attacks on the power system in October, the power shortage on some days after the strikes reached 50%, as a result of which, on average, up to 12 million Ukrainians were without electricity every hour.
Ukrenergo called November 23 the most difficult day in the entire history of the existence of the Ukrainian energy system, when, as a result of massive shelling, a major system accident occurred, the integrity of the energy system was lost: all nuclear power plants and most other generating facilities stopped.
At the same time, the system operator indicated that its dispatch center restored the integrity of the grid and the reliability of its connection with the EU energy system within 14 hours.
"The liquidation of the consequences and the connection of consumers lasted up to three days, which was associated with the gradual return to work of nuclear power plants and the restoration of infrastructure," the company summed up.
In total, the Russian invaders carried out 14 massive missile and 17 drone attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, as a result of which more than 40% of the energy infrastructure was hit.
At the same time, the company considered that more than 200 strikes were carried out precisely on the objects of Ukrenergo, and all large thermal and hydroelectric power plants were also damaged.
The company noted that its five employees died while performing professional duties, six defending Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces, and one was killed in occupied Bucha.
