Electricity import-export to resume after synchronization work completed with Europeans – Ukrenergo

Resumption of auctions for the sale of access to interstate connections for the import-export of electrical energy will become possible after some time of unification of the Ukrainian and Moldovan energy systems with the European one, Ukrenergo Board Chairman Volodymyr Kudrytsky said.

"When we restore the normal functioning of the energy system, we will work, at least for some time, with the Europeans in a synchronous mode. We will test together with them the reliability of the energy interconnection that was formed yesterday, we will begin commercial exchanges with the European energy system. And they will provide for the usual auctions for all of us for access to interstate crossings," Kudrytsky said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.

He explained that the physical interconnection of the energy systems of Ukraine, Moldova and Europe is in a test mode.

"We went through yesterday evening, this morning. We are collecting information, technical parameters, and after a while we will talk with the Europeans about import-export operations," he said.

At the same time, Minister of Energy Herman Haluschenko, also participating in the briefing, expressed hope that the issue of commercial export-import, which is the next stage of synchronization with ENTSO-E, will be considered in the near future.

"Both Ukraine and European companies are interested in this. We see requests from them to buy electricity in Ukraine," he said.

As reported, on March 16, ENTSO-E made a decision to synchronize the continental European energy system with the energy systems of Ukraine and Moldova.
