Government approves Ukraine's transport strategy until 2030

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the country's national transport strategy for the period until 2030, which determines the priorities for development of the sector.

The decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday.

This strategy is the main document regulating the development of the transport sector in Ukraine. The remaining documents relating to the transport industry and road facilities must comply with the provisions of this document.

The strategy determines the priorities of the integrated formation of transport policy and effective public management, the main directions of development of the transport industry of Ukraine for the period until 2030.

It is intended to create a safe transport complex in Ukraine integrated into the global transport network; meet the needs of the population for transportation and improve the business environment to ensure the competitiveness and efficiency of the national economy.

The document says the implementation of the strategy will facilitate the integration of Ukraine into the EU. The strategy also assumes Ukraine's status as a regional transport hub.

Among the goals of the concept are globalization of transcontinental air transportation, the use of alternative fuels, mass containerization of traffic, containment of motorization in the cities through the development of public and muscular transport.

It is planned that the implementation of the strategy will contribute to improving the efficiency of domestic cargo transportation by improving the relevant infrastructure and integrating it into the international and trans-European transport networks.

According to the document, in particular, it is planned to create a network of routes for regular container/multimodal freight trains synchronized with the routes of EU trains, as well as increase the efficiency of use of Ukraine's airspace by introducing free routes (FRAU) and navigation technologies based on GNSS.
