Agrarian Ministry to launch program to support dairy cooperatives in Feb 2018

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is planning in early February 2018 to introduce a program to support dairy cooperatives in order to improve the quality of milk.

"We will offer a program to support the creation of dairy cooperatives in 2018. The state will co-finance the cost of purchasing equipment for milking and storing milk by small farms ... Now we are finalizing the development of this program, consulting with processors, producers. I think we need another week to complete work on this program," First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Maksym Martyniuk said at a press conference.

According to him, part of the funds from the farming support program worth UAH 1 billion will be aimed at supporting cooperatives, mainly dairy.

The ministry estimates the minimum costs for creating cooperative at UAH 150,000-200,000, including the cost of purchasing necessary equipment.

According to the ministry, if the product batch is formed, profit from the sale of milk could grow by several hryvnias.

In addition, the ministry said Ukraine should by 2022 transfer from milk standardization to the technical regulation of requirements for milk.
