Hearings on Tatarstan's lawsuit against Ukraine on Ukrtatnafta in Hague expected in March 2018

Hearings in the Hague (the Netherlands) on the lawsuit of the Republic of Tatarstan and its Ministry of Land and Property against Ukraine regarding PJSC Ukrtatnafta (Kremenchuk oil refinery) are expected in March 2018.

This is stated in the tender documentation of the Justice Ministry of Ukraine, which on August 30 signed an agreement with Winston & Strawn LLP (France) worth $875,000 for the provision of legal advice and representation services.

The Tatarstan side believes that Ukraine violated the intergovernmental agreement between the countries on encouragement and mutual protection of investments dated November 27, 1998 due to the alleged illegal reinstatement of Ukrtatnafta board chairman Pavlo Ovcharenko and the illegal decisions of Ukrainian courts on depriving the ministry of its stake in the company.

As of the end of August 2017, the parties exchanged written explanations.
