NBU relaxes rules for moving cash foreign currency by individuals crossing customs border

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has relaxed the rules for moving cash foreign currency by individuals crossing the customs border of Ukraine, the central bank has reported on its website.

The NBU expanded the list of document that could be presented by residents for customs declaration of cash foreign currency in equivalent of over EUR 10,000.

"Now for confirming the origin of cash foreign currency one can present not only documents confirming withdrawal of cash from an account in a bank (financial institutions), but also the receipt confirming the currency exchange transaction with cash.

Ukrainian diplomats who return to Ukraine after a long business trip are permitted to bring cash foreign currency in the amount exceeded EUR 10,000 with a certificate from the diplomatic institution.

The term of the documents required for customs declaration of cash foreign currency is expanded from 30 to 90 calendar days.

The decision is outlined in NBU board resolution No. 24 amending the rules on the transfer of cash and banking metals across the customs border of Ukraine dated March 22, 2017. The decision took effect on March 23.
