Fish companies in May could have access to financing from EIB EUR 400 mln loan

Fish companies would be able to have access to the financing from a EUR 400 million loan of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in May 2017.

"Last year Ukraine managed to receive a loan from the EIB. We have managed to receive international assistance for development of fish industry for the first time. According to our estimates, all formal preparations will be finished in May and the funds will be available for businessmen," Head of the State Fish Agency Yarema Kovaliv said at a press conference in Kyiv last week.

He said that first since 2013 the national budget for 2017 envisages financing of the fish and aquatic resources breeding program for the Azov and Black seas in the amount of UAH 40 million. Pilot fish breeding projects will be implemented in Kyiv and Kaniv water-storage basins.

The 2017 national budget provided enough funds for fuel and lubricants for fish patrols in all regions of Ukraine – UAH 27 million.

According to the agency, fish catch in internal water basins and seas of Ukraine in 2016 was the highest in the past 20 years (not taking into account fish catch in the Black Sea on the territory of Crimea) – 79,500 tonnes. This was 14% up on 2015. Last year industrial fish catch totaled 58,100 tonnes and aquatic resources catch – 21,400 tonnes.
