NBU bans Ukrainian banks from cooperating with transit banks to prevent capital outflow

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) as part of measures to prevent capital outflows has banned Ukrainian banks from cooperating with transit banks, NBU Governor Valeriya Gontareva said at a meeting with heads of top 40 largest banks.

"I want to congratulate all of us: now banks that operate in Ukraine completely stopped cooperation with these infamous transit banks. One can say that the problem with capital outflow from them has been fully removed. However, we will continue monitoring the state of correspondent accounts of our banks," she said.

The press service of the regulator told Interfax-Ukraine that the NBU from April 1, 2016 banned banks from placing funds on correspondent accounts of Meinl, Frick, East-West United Bank and Winter&Co.
