Oschadbank hopes to make profit in 2016

Kyiv-based state-run Oschadbank plans to end 2016 with profit should the national currency and other major macroeconomic indicators remain stable, according to the bank's press service.

"In 2016, the bank plans to ensure profitable performance if the hryvnia doesn't considerably weaken and major macroeconomic indicators do not worsen," the press service quoted Oschadbank Governor Andriy Pyshny as saying.

January through February 2016, Oschadbank posted UAH 78.5 million in profit, which is 37% up on the same indicator last year.

The bank's regulatory capital adequacy indicator as of March 1 was 11.62%.

At the same time, Pyshny told Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) that the bank might need additional capitalization.

"Unfortunately, there is a high probability of negative scenarios, which were foreseen during the bank's stress testing. Thus, one cannot rule out additional capitalization might be needed," he said.

Pyshny says that until 2018, the bank will be able to fulfill its "roadmap" to introduce management standards that will let the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other international financial organizations decide to join the bank's equity capital.

Oschadbank was founded in 1991. It is a wholly owned state bank.
