A hundred hub schools are scheduled to be open in Ukraine in 2016, and the government has allocated UAH 200 million for their establishment, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.

"This year, we plan to open 100 hub schools," Yatseniuk said in the "10 Minutes with Prime Minister" program on Sunday.

According to him, last year the government allocated UAH 100 million for the purchase of multimedia equipment for schools across Ukraine. "This year the government has allocated UAH 200 million, so that Ukraine should get such hub schools," Yatseniuk said.

In addition, it allocated UAH 500 million for the purchase of school buses that will bring children to these schools.

In particular, by September 1, 2016, 1,000 such buses are to be purchased, so the prime minister urged local authorities to announce a tender for the purchase of these buses without delay.

As reported, on March 2, the Education and Science Ministry of Ukraine held a presentation of the program for the establishment of hub schools in Ukraine, to which smaller schools in the territory of the community or region will be subordinated.

Yatseniuk called the formation of hub schools the task for 2016 and suggested that the government should approve principal guidelines for the state policy in this area and announce local tenders for the purchase of buses, which should take children to hub schools.

A hub school is a school that will be created for students from senior classes from several schools with a low number of students. Thus, students of junior classes will be able to study close to their homes, remaining at primary schools with a low number of students, while students of senior classes will be transferred to hub schools, which will have advanced equipment for physics, chemistry, biology, etc. and respective teaching staff. The government is to allocate UAH 600 million to buy school buses for the hub schools.
