Twenty lawmakers insist on sanctions against Russia's Rosneft

Twenty Ukrainian lawmakers insist that the Ukrainian parliament should introduce sanctions against Russia's OAO Rosneft and its subsidiaries in Ukraine.

Respective bill No. 3779 was registered by the Verkhovna Rada on January 18.

The bill states that the Cabinet of Ministers should ensure the termination of any business relations between state-run Ukrainian enterprises, those having the state's stakes and Rosneft and its subsidiaries.

"The Cabinet of Ministers ... should freeze Ukrainian-based assets of OAO Rosneft, its subsidiaries and the companies whose ultimate beneficiary is Rosneft or its subsidiaries," the bill said.

The MPs also propose that Ukraine's State Fiscal Service and its territorial divisions should carry out inspections of Rosneft's structures and all their Ukrainian counteragents engaged in purchase from or sale of products to Rosneft in 2014-2015.

The bill also contains a provision prohibiting transit shipments of Rosneft's goods across the Ukrainian borders.

What is more, the authors of the bill want the National Bank of Ukraine to oblige banks not to service Rosneft and its structures in Ukraine.

Most of its authors are People's Front Party members, namely Tetiana Chornovol, Andriy Levus, Serhiy Vysotsky, Ihor Lapin, Volodymyr Soliar, Mykola Velychkovych, Dmytro Tymchuk, Mykhaio Havryliuk, Andriy Teteruk, Yuriy Bereza, Anton Gerashchenko, Mykola Kniazhytsky, Ihor Vasiunyk, and Yuriy Tymoshenko.

Other authors of the bill are Ihor Lutsenko and Ivan Krulko (both from the Batkivschyna Party), independent MPs Boryslav Bereza and Volodymyr Parasiuk, and Ivan Vynnyk and Ihor Nasalik (both from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc).

As was reported, Ukraine's Anti-Monopoly Committee did not consider an application filed by Swiss-based Glusco Energy S.A. on January 11 for the acquisition of Rosneft's filling stations in Ukraine.

Rosneft has 141 filling stations in 12 Ukrainian regions. They work under such brands as Formula, TNK, Zolotoy Gepard (Golden Cheetah), and Smile.
