Naftogaz Ukrainy is expecting on Wednesday to receive the entire volume of Russian gas that was paid for earlier and will continue to meet its obligations for the transportation of gas to Europe, the state holding's press service said.

"In accordance with the current agreements with Gazprom, the company is planning to contract Russian gas as much as needed, depending on the level of consumption in Ukraine and with account of supply on the European market. Until this time, Naftogaz will accept Russian gas only for transportation to Europe," the statement said.

"For the last year and a half we have shown that we can provide uninterrupted transit of Russian gas independently of whether it is being supplied for Ukraine or not, in both summer and winter. At this time last year we did not buy Russian gas amid lower gas reserves in our underground storage, and fewer opportunities for importing gas from the EU. As much as we know, both Gazprom and its clients are satisfied with the quality and reliability of our transit services," the statement cited company head Andriy Kobolev as saying.
