Kazakhstan interested in privatization of Ukrainian energy companies – Ukrainian energy minister

Kazakhstan's companies have expressed their interest in the privatization of Ukrainian energy enterprises, Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn has said.

"The Kazakh side is interested in the privatization of Ukrainian energy companies. These include energy companies, because they [the Kazakh side] have great experience in their maintenance and coal supply, and they are also interested in power grids. Yesterday, they expressed interest in our regional power companies, which were put up for privatization, as well as to heating utilities. That is, they are very interested in heating infrastructure," he told reporters in Astana on Friday.

According to the minister, the Ukrainian side discussed these issues with representatives of the Kazakh authorities and private energy companies.

Demchyshyn said that they also discussed deliveries of uranium concentrate, gas condensate, and oil products from Kazakhstan.

"In terms of energy industry, the interest is very high. Kazakhstan is an energy producing country, it exports quite large amounts of crude oil, petroleum products, gas, uranium concentrate produced in large volumes. What we are interested in is coal in large quantities," the minister said.
