Ukrainian housing, utilities subsidies up fivefold in Jan-March 2015

The total amount of subsidies paid out to families for housing and utilities in Ukraine was UAH 127.7 million in January-March 2015, which is UAH 102.7 million or 5.1 times up year-on-year.

The figure for January-March 2015 does not include the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol, and the temporarily occupied areas in the anti-terrorist operation zone in eastern Ukraine. Data on Donetsk and Luhansk regions may be adjusted.

Subsidies were allocated to 392,000 households in January-March 2015, which is 99.1% of the total number of those that applied for subsidies and 2.3 times up year-on-year, the State Statistics Service said. Some 60.6% of the households that received subsidies in January-March 2015 consisted of one person.

The average size of a one grant for housing payments and utilities services to one household was three times up in March 2015 year-on-year, totaling UAH 273.90 ($12.15 as of April 23 at the NBU's official forex rate).

The highest sum of the subsidy totaling UAH 457.40 ($20.29 as of April 23 at the NBU's official forex rate) in March 2015 was registered in Donetsk region, with the lowest paid in Zakarpattia and Kirovohrad regions, at UAH 45.70 (a mere $ 2.03) and UAH 87.40 ($3.88) respectively.

As reported, the total amount of subsidies paid to families for housing and utility services in Ukraine in 2014 amounted to UAH 348.8 million, which is UAH 82.3 million, or 30.9%, up year-over-year.
