Wholesale market price of electricity in Ukraine increases by 13.7% in 2014

The average wholesale market price of electricity on the wholesale electricity market of Ukraine in 2014 increased by 13.7%, from UAH 730 to UAH 830 per MWh.

These data are presented in the materials of state enterprise Energomarket, prepared for the final session of the general meeting of the wholesale electricity market participants, which took place on February 4, 2015.

According to the document, the increase in the average wholesale market price of electricity was mainly due to the increase in the amount of subsidy certificates (regional power companies' compensating losses from power supply to certain categories of consumers, mainly the population) by 8.7%, from UAH 37.6 billion in 2013 to UAH 40.825 billion in 2014. At the same time, the share of subsidy certificates in the structure of the wholesale market price of power over the year increased by 0.47 percentage points, from 29.2% in 2013 to 29.64% in 2014.

The average producers' price of electricity sold to the wholesale electricity market in the past year increased by 12.9%, from 46.21 kopecks per kWh to 52.18 kopecks per kWh.

The average price of electricity paid by power suppliers to the wholesale electricity market last year increased by 12.8%, from 51.18 kopecks per kWh to 57.73 kopecks per kWh. In particular, the average price of electricity purchase on the wholesale electricity market for its further exports in 2014 rose by 9.7%, from 50.95 kopecks to 55.91 kopecks per kWh.

In 2014, 161.6 billion kWh of electricity was bought from the wholesale electricity market, which is 6.1% down on 2013.

Energomarket sent UAH 2.672 billion to the general fund of the national budget in the form of the extra charge to the electricity and heat tariffs in 2014.
