Ukraine appeals to ICAO with request to confirm its right to serve air traffic over Black Sea

The Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise (UkSATSE) is fully able to service air traffic in international airspace over the Black Sea which Ukraine is responsible for.

According to the press service of UkSATSE, its director Dmytro Babeichuk said this during a meeting with the ICAO leadership, Eurocontrol, IATA and FAA, which took place during the second High-Level Safety Conference in Montreal (Canada). In particular, he noted that the technical ability and the professional level of the company’s personnel fully comply with the requirements of both Eurocontrol and CANSO for air navigation service providers.

In addition, according to Babeichuk, in 2014 Ukraine properly updated the letters of agreement with Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania, which also confirms its responsibility for providing quality air traffic services in international airspace over the high seas, for which the country is responsible on the basis of existing regional air navigation agreements and decisions made by the ICAO Council.

"Ukraine as a full member of the ICAO consistently adheres to international treaties in the field of civil aviation and air navigation, including regional air navigation agreements. Therefore Ukraine has appealed to this influential international organization with the request to confirm its exclusive right to service air traffic over the Black Sea, delegated in accordance with the decision of the ICAO Council in 1997," Babeichuk said.
