The European Commission next week will decide on the issue of macro financial assistance loans of EUR 1.6 billion to Ukraine, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has reported.

"Next week we will take further decisions regarding urgent macro financial support elevating our more urgent aid to EUR 1.6 billion in support for Ukraine, because that country needs all our support," Barroso said in a video made in Strasbourg on March 12.

Noting the statement made by the G-7 states in connection with the events in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the European Commission president expressed hope that "all member states will stick to this position, a very united and firm position."

"We don't want to see exactly one century after the Great War exactly the same kind of behavior of countries annexing other countries. This is not compatible with the values and the peace which are so important for all of us in Europe," said Barroso.
