Ukraine's international reserves exceed $17.7 bln

Ukraine's international reserves as of February 5 amounted to about $17.75 billion, an informed source on the financial market has told Interfax-Ukraine.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has not yet officially released data on the dynamics of reserves in January.

The NBU previously reported that in December 2013 international reserves increased by 8.6%, to $20.416 billion.

The source told the agency that the National Bank is carrying out extensive consultations with commercial banks, urging them in the absence of fundamental factors for the excessive weakening of the hryvnia and the adequacy of reserves to keep the situation under control.

According to him, this became one of the factors for stabilizing the interbank market on February 6 and strengthening the hryvnia to the level of UAH 8.88-8.94 per $1 compared to UAH 9.00 per $1 at the end of the previous day.
