Ukrainian state mines' losses from coal production come to UAH 6 b in Jan-May
The losses of coal mines managed by the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine from coal production in January-May 2013 amounted to UAH 6.020 billion, which is 37.7% up on the same period of 2012.
According to the ministry, over the first five months of this year state mines produced coal worth UAH 3.303 billion, which is 17.8% down on the same period in 2012.
In January-May 2013, the average price of coal produced by state-owned enterprises amounted to UAH 504.2 per tonne. In comparison with January-May 2012, the average price of coal fell by 18.8%.
At the same time, the actual cost of coal amounted to UAH 1,423 per tonne. The increase in the coal cost compared to January-May 2012 amounted to 9.8%.
Some UAH 5.614 billion was allocated from the national budget in January-May 2013 to partially cover the cost of coal production.
In general, the volume of coal produced by state mines over the first five months in 2013 amounted to 6.551 million tonnes, while in May alone it was 1.235 million tonnes.
