ENTSO-E working on boosting power imports capacity, may decide by winter

The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), at the request of NPC Ukrenergo, is working on the possibility of increasing cross-border capacity for electricity imports from Europe to Ukraine and may make a decision before the onset of cold weather, said Board Chairman of the company Volodymyr Kudrytsky.

"At our very insistent requests, ENTSO-E is currently calculating how to bypass bottlenecks in the European grid and how much imports to Ukraine can be increased for the winter to reduce the deficit," Kudrytsky said at a briefing at the Media Center in Kyiv on Friday.

He noted that Ukrenergo expects such a decision before winter, "in the coming weeks to months."

Kudrytsky emphasized that the transmission capacity of the Ukrainian grid for imports is significant and much larger than the 1700 MW allowed today, with limiting factors being "certain bottlenecks on the European side."

"Undoubtedly, our goal is to minimize the deficit. By ensuring import opportunities, we are securing the transmission grid, which backs up generating capacities that have been lost due to Russian attacks and delivers resources to consumers," said the head of Ukrenergo.

He also noted that the role of imports will be very important until Ukraine restores destroyed capacities and builds a decentralized system, "which is already beginning to appear."
