Ukrainian MFA about tragedy in Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza Strip: Attacks on medical institutions unacceptable under any circumstances
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine, in connection with the large number of victims in the Al-Ahli hospital in the Gaza Strip, issued a statement about the “inadmissibility of attacks by either side on medical institutions or other civilian critical infrastructure” and called for a comprehensive investigation of the tragedy, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.
“Against the backdrop of reports of a large number of casualties at the Al-Ahli hospital in the Gaza Strip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes the inadmissibility of attacks by either side on medical facilities or other civilian critical infrastructure under any circumstances. We call for a comprehensive investigation into this tragedy and bringing those responsible to justice," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its official website on Wednesday.
“We also call on the parties to the armed confrontation to strictly observe the rules of war and respect the norms of international humanitarian law,” the statement emphasizes.
The Foreign Ministry noted that Ukrainians deeply feel the pain of war. “We express our condolences to the loved ones of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured at Al-Ahhli Hospital,” the statement says.
“It is now critically important to avoid a further increase in the number of civilian casualties on both sides of the conflict in both Israel and Palestine. We reaffirm our belief that the Middle East peace process must remain the basis of efforts to restore regional stability and security, as well as realize the two-state principle through peaceful coexistence of Israel and Palestine," the statement reads.
It was previously reported that on Tuesday, October 17, an airstrike was carried out on the Al-Ahli hospital in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian side blamed the Israeli army for the airstrike on the hospital, which killed and injured more than a hundred people. The Israel Defense Forces said it did not strike a hospital in Gaza. It was allegedly hit by a rocket that was unsuccessfully launched by Islamic Jihad.
