In order to establish the identities of the people who ordered the killing of journalist Georgy Gongadze in 2000, all the people who served in government posts at that time are now being checked and comprehensive forensic inquiries are being conducted, Ivan Lyschyna, Deputy Justice Minister of Ukraine and a Commissioner for the European Court of Human Rights, has announced.

"The main investigation department of the Prosecutor General's Office continues its investigation into the masterminding and incitement of the intended killing of journalist Georgy Gongadze. The investigators have been checking all the people who served in government posts at that time as to their involvement in the commitment of the crime; a panel of comprehensive forensic inquiries has been underway," Lyschyna said on November 5 during a roundtable of the Verkhovna Rada's Committee for Foreign Affairs while speaking of the investigation to establish the identities of the people who had ordered the murder of Gongadze in Ukraine.

As was reported earlier, Gongadze went missing in Kyiv on September 16, 2000. In November that year, a headless body was found in Kyiv region that, according to forensic experts, could have been Gongadze's. In 2009, remains of a human skull were found in Kyiv region, which, according to a statement by the Prosecutor General's Office, belonged to Gongadze.

The funeral of the murdered journalist took place in Kyiv on March 22, 2016. The people who ordered the murder have not been identified yet.
