Leader of the public movement "Ukrainian Choice – People's Right," a member of the Za Zhyttia (For Life) party, Viktor Medvedchuk, has been unanimously elected chairman of the political council of this party at its extraordinary congress.

"A new composition of the political council of Za Zhyttia has been elected. As a result of a unanimous vote at the congress, Viktor Medvedchuk was elected chairman of the Za Zhyttia political party's council, who also spoke at the congress outlining the party's position on the most pressing current issues," the official website of the party reported on Sunday.

The first stage of the extraordinary congress was convened by the head of the party, Ukrainian MP Vadym Rabinovych after the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers to raise gas prices for the population. Speaking at the congress, Rabinovych called these government actions "criminal and murderous for the economy, for ordinary people."

According to him, Za Zhyttia party will do everything in its power to counter the "destructive economic course" of the current government, which makes the country completely dependent on the IMF.

The party announced that the second stage of the extraordinary congress, which will be announced later, will take place soon.
