Kyiv court rules to issue execution writ to recover $140 mln from Russia on 'Crimean' lawsuit of ex-head of PrivatBank

The Kyiv Court of Appeals has recognized and permitted to implement the decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague dated May 2, 2018 to recover compensation for the property of the ex-head of PrivatBank and 17 other companies in Crimea and ruled to issue the appropriate writs in favor of the plaintiffs.

According to the database of court decisions, the court issued the relevant ruling on September 25.

According to the report, the execution writs should be issued to the plaintiffs for about $130.5 million compensation for real estate, $9.2 million compensation for the costs of the trial, as well as interest on the specified amounts at a rate of 12-month LIBOR plus 1% of compound interest annually.

"The court's decision can be appealed in the Supreme Court within 30 days from the date of proclamation by filing an appeal directly to this court," the document says.

As reported, the Kyiv Court of Appeals on September 5 decided to seize the shares of the Ukrainian subsidiaries of Russian banks with the state's participation, namely VTB, Prominvestbank and Sberbank (all based in Kyiv). The decision was made in connection with the statement on securing the claim and executing the decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague dated May 2 on recovery of compensation for property from the Russian Federation.
