Nash Kray calls on govt to restore state control over food prices

The Nash Kray party has demanded the return of state control over food prices, co-chairman of the party Oleksandr Mazurchak has said, commenting on the increase in the cost of family grilled meat by more than 36% over the year.

He noted that during May holidays Ukrainians traditionally leave with their families for a picnic.

"So that a family consisting of four people during May holidays could arrange a traditional barbecue, it needs to pay at least UAH 403.15, while last year the figure stood at UAH 297.95. The price of grilled meat rose by 35.5%, while the government tells us about inflation at the level of 13.4% .The Cabinet of Ministers should immediately regain control over food prices," Mazurchak said.

He said that the Cabinet stepped back from controlling food prices.

"All the prices went up: those for vegetables, bread, beverages. Not every Ukrainian can afford meat at a price of UAH 140 per kilogram. There would not be such prices, if the government would have supported farmers but not big business and would not have stepped back from controlling food prices. If not to restore control immediately, Ukrainians will grill potato instead of meat," the politician summed up.
