Ukraine's Constitutional Court declares 2012 law on all-Ukrainian referendum unconstitutional

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine has passed a judgment in the case on the constitutional query by 57 people's deputies regarding the constitutionality of the law on the all-Ukrainian referendum dated November 6, 2012, which recognized this law as unconstitutional.

"By this judgment, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine has recognized the law as unconstitutional both because of violation of the procedure for its consideration and adoption, and because of its content. Having found the goal of the law to be illegitimate and its provisions to be inconsistent with the requirements of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Court concluded that the law fully contradicts the basic law of the state," the Constitutional Court's press service said in a statement on Friday.
