Kyiv's adversary continues shell attacks, provocations in Donbas; serious threat to European, Ukrainian security remains - Poroshenko

In violation of the Donbas ceasefire agreements, Kyiv's adversary continues to organize armed provocations and shelling attacks, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

"Armed provocations, sabotage, and shelling attacks using the weaponry, which were supposed to be withdrawn a long time ago, continue. All of this is happening in spite of the cessation of hostilities agreements that were achieved," Poroshenko said at a meeting with soldiers in the Yavorivsky training range in the Lviv region, where he went together with Julie Payette, the Governor General of Canada.

"The risks and threats to our sovereignty, our territorial integrity, regrettably, remain high, as does the threat to the security and stability of all the countries in Europe and across the world," Poroshenko said.

The situation in the eats of the country remains tense, he went on.

"Only over the past 24 hours, we lost three of our soldiers," Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko emphasized that Ukraine and its partners are not only looking for some international mechanisms for settling current challenges but also "getting actually prepared to effectively react to them."

"The best way of stopping an aggressor is being ready for a proper defense and repelling any kind of assault. This is exactly why the Ukrainian Armed Forces are constantly boosting their readiness to accomplish tasks and undergoing combat training," Poroshenko said.
