Ukraine is conducting the environmental examination of construction of the Kerch Bridge to initiate a lawsuit at the international level, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said.

"Prevention of an environmental disaster, which could appear due to the construction of so-called Kerch Bridge, is an extremely important aspect of our work. Today Crimean Prosecutors' Office is conducting the environmental examination as part of a criminal case," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Lutsenko said that if the likelihood of the environmental disaster is proved, Ukraine will address the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) countries (Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania and Turkey) with a proposal to create a joint investigation group to conduct a pretrial investigation into construction of this bridge.

"Here we have the following prospects: conviction in absentia and economic sanctions," Lutsenko said.
