One person injured in Nikopol court blast dies

One of the defendants in the murder case, who was injured in a grenade explosion at a court session in Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region, on November 30, has died while getting medical assistance, the Ukrayinska Pravda news website has reported, citing Ukrainian National Police spokesman Yaroslav Trakalo.

"A participant in the trial died during the provision of assistance in hospital. This is one of the defendants, born in 1977. Before that, he was operated on," Trakalo said.

As reported, during a court hearing of the murder case in Nikopol on Thursday, November 30, the father of the deceased pulled out two grenades and blew them up. He himself died in the explosion. Ten more people were injured, in particular, three defendants, two members of the escort service, court staff, and several civilians. All the injured were taken to hospitals, and two of them underwent surgery.

A criminal case qualified under Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder) has been opened.

According to media reports, in February 2016, unidentified persons started shooting at a Geely car, killing two passengers. One of them was the son of the man who blew himself up in court. The man blew up the grenades after the court again postponed the session, having repeatedly done so in the past.
