Poland trying to draw EU into game against Ukraine – Viatrovych

Warsaw is trying to draw the European Union into a game against Ukraine through its actions, in particular, by banning Secretary of the State Interagency Commission for the Commemoration of Victims of War and Political Repressions Sviatoslav Sheremeta from entering Poland, Head of the Ukrainian National Remembrance Institute Volodymyr Viatrovych has said.

"I believe that the step taken by the Polish side to ban entry into the Schengen area for the secretary of the interagency commission, Sviatoslav Sheremeta, is a very serious violation by the Polish side and Poland's desire to draw the EU into this dirty anti-Ukrainian game," he told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He also added that Ukrainian diplomats should react more harshly to such manifestations of the anti-Ukrainian position and also appeal to European institutions about the unacceptability of such actions.

As reported, Sheremeta was refused entry to Poland on November 18.

In early November 2017, Polish newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, referring to its sources, reported that the Foreign Ministry of Poland had been drawing up a list of Ukrainians who will be refused entry to Poland. According to the newspaper, the list could include Sheremeta, who this summer decided to ban exhumation works in the village of Kostiukhnivka, Manevychi district, Volyn region, as part of the work of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance to search for members of the Polish Legions in 1915-1916.

According to the newspaper, Warsaw also banned Viatrovych from entering Poland. The country will not publish the list and individuals subject to travel bans will learn on the border whether their entry is banned or not.
