Lawyer Feygin to ask in Kyiv about prospects of exchange of Ukrainian journalist Suschenko arrested in Russia

Mark Feygin, lawyer for Roman Suschenko, a Ukrainian journalist with the national information agency Ukrinform detained in Russia, intends to arrive in Kyiv on Monday, October 31, to find out the prospects of his client's exchange.

"I will come to Kyiv on Monday, October 31, and will stay several days there. I hope to learn about the prospects of exchanging Suschenko for defendants from Russia," Feygin said on Twitter on Thursday.

On October 3, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said that its officers in Moscow "arrested Col. Roman Suschenko, an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, during a spy operation." The FSB opened a criminal case under Article 276 (espionage) of the Russian Criminal Code; an inquiry is underway.

The Lefortovo court in Moscow placed Suschenko under two-month arrest. His defense team has appealed against the arrest. On October 7, it emerged that Russian investigators had charged Suschenko with espionage. On October 27, the Moscow City Court rejected the appeal filed by his lawyer Mark Feygin and upheld the decision made by the Lefortovo court in a court hearing held behind closed doors. Kyiv called the arrest a provocation on trumped-up espionage charges.
