Sakvarelidze says seized at Odesa Port-Side Plant documents may put on trail of government officials

The prosecutor's office during the searches has seized from Odesa Port-Side Plant the documents, which may put on trail of the officials working in the Ukrainian government, said Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine and Chief Prosecutor of Odesa region David Sakvarelidze.

"We searched the enterprise [Odesa Port-Side Plant], seized very important documents, which could bring us to the Cabinet of Ministers as well…The investigation is in an a very active phase now…In our interests to try our best to find the first results, which will be published and handled to the public," he told in an interview of Channel Five on Tuesday evening.

He confirmed that Odesa prosecutors investigated into the corruption schemes of Odesa Port-Side Plant worth over UAH 4 billion.

The prosecutor said the individuals, involved into embezzlement of the funds, which should have been meant to the state budget, however have been withdrawn due to false companies as well, will be identified.

The prosecutor also predicted that within next two weeks there could be presented first suspicions and accusations on the results of the investigations into corruption facts at Odesa port.

Sakvarelidze said at a moment he can't name certain persons as long as the investigation is carried.

"Next two weeks will be key one since there would be initial facts, definite legal decisions, suspicions and accusations," he added.

Previously some Ukrainian media referring to British The Times reported allegedly, according to Sakvarelidze, PGO suspects Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk in involvement to embezzlements of port's incomes under corruption scheme worth $90 million per year. Allegedly evidence of Yatseniuk's involvement into this scheme was revealed during the raid made on the plant.

Sakvarelidze denied this information.

"I, as a prosecutor, when the investigation is underway, have no right to accuse somebody of the corruption activities. It's unprofessionally and against ethics. The accusations must at least be some kind of presentation on suspicion. Correspondingly, in our talk I couldn't say name of Arseniy Petrovych Yatseniuk as a participant of the corruption scheme worth UAH 90 million," he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
