Agriculture Ministry predicts 5% rise in prices for bread, meat, milk by end of year

The price of bread in Ukraine will increase by about 5% by the end of the year, and the seasonal rise in prices for all dairy products will also total 5%, although the price of eggs will rise by 5.7%, director of the food department at the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food, Dmytro Shulmeister, said at a briefing on the country's food security.
Agriculture Minister Oleksiy Pavlenko, in turn, added that prices for socially important kinds of bread are not expected to rise due to the fall in wheat prices on the global markets.
"We see no reason for the rise in the price for the most popular types of bread," he said.
According to the minister, the sunflower oil market is expected to be stable, while sugar prices may rise.
"But this is more a psychological factor. We plan to work on this... The sugar we have and sugar to be produced will be enough," he added.
In addition, according to Pavlenko, Ukraine reduced bread consumption in the current year by 6%, because "there is a larger proportion of meat, vegetables and milk."
