Court cancels Ivano-Frankivsk region legislature's decision to outlaw Opposition Blo

A court in Ivano-Frankivsk, western Ukraine, has cancelled the regional legislature's decision to ban the activities of the Opposition Bloc party in the region, the party has said.

"Thanks to joint efforts made by the public and the opposition, today we managed to restore justice and secure the annulment of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional council's decision to ban the activities of the Opposition Bloc in the region. The court admitted that the regional council's decision is unlawful and exceeds [the legislature's] authority," Opposition Bloc faction MP Serhiy Larin was quoted as saying by the party's press service.

The Opposition Bloc will continue to look for an opportunity to take part in elections in the Kharkiv region, he said.

"We will continue to try to secure the Opposition Bloc's participation in the elections in the Kharkiv region and demand that all officials who have repeatedly denied us registration in violation of the law be held to account," he added.

It was reported earlier that in April of this year the Ivano-Frankivsk region's legislature decided to ban the Communist Party of Ukraine, the Party of Regions, the Opposition Bloc and the Development Party of Ukraine from operating on the territory of the region.
