Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says he would like to see such a specialist as First Deputy Interior Minister Eka Zguladze as the chief of reformed Ukrainian police.

"We have started passing bills regulating reforms of the Interior Ministry. They separate forcible functions from political ones and set up a municipal guard and new police. And, by the way, I see such a person as Eka Zguladze as their future chief," Poroshenko said in an annual address to the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday.

Ekaterina (Eka) Zguladze was appointed deputy interior minister of Georgia in 2005 and served in this capacity until 2012. She was actively involved in the Georgian police's reduction and restructuring during the reforms led by former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. She resigned after the opposition won the 2012 elections.

Poroshenko granted Zguladze Ukrainian citizenship on December 13, 2014, after which she was appointed Ukrainian deputy interior minister.
