Kyiv "sincerely hopes" Astana summit will secure final solution to Ukrainian crisis – diplomat

The capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, is preparing to host a possible summit that will address the situation in Ukraine, but a date for this event has not been set so far, Ukrainian Charge d'Affaires to Kazakhstan Yuriy Lazebnik has said.

"A meeting at the level of the presidents of Ukraine, Russia and France, as well as the German chancellor is being prepared in Astana. The Kazakh side has confirmed its readiness to host such a meeting as soon as its date is agreed," Lazebnik said at a press briefing in Astana on Tuesday.

"The main condition for holding this meeting is the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, which were secured at the beginning of September 2014," he said.

"The president of Kazakhstan was among the leaders who spearheaded the Minsk process. And he supports Ukraine's position that all agreements reached in Minsk should be implemented," Lazebnik said.

"All four parties of the so-called "Normandy format" are currently working with Kazakhstan's assistance in order to put all Minsk agreements into practice, make the Astana summit a success and in order to be able to secure a final solution to the situation in Ukraine on the territory of Kazakhstan. Kyiv sincerely hopes that it will happen," Lazebnik said.
