Ban Ki-moon's deputy to visit Ukraine on May 7-8 – Foreign Ministry
The United Nations Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffry Feltman is to pay a visit to Ukraine this week, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.
"On May 7-8, United Nations Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffry Feltman plans to visit Ukraine," Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a press briefing in Kyiv.
According to him, this visit was initiated by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to assist the diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
"Feltman is expected to meet in Ukraine with the Ukraine's leadership and Ukrainian Foreign Ministry," the spokesman added.
Besides, Feltman is to pay a brief visit to Moscow on Tuesday to discuss ways out of the Ukrainian crisis, Moscow Interfax discovered from its UN sources on Monday.
Mr. Feltman will spend a few hours in Moscow. He is arriving on Tuesday morning and traveling to Kyiv on the same day, a source said.
The UN official is expected to hold meetings at the Russian Foreign Ministry, the source said.
As reported, last week Feltman told the UN Security Council during a discussion of the situation in Ukraine that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had asked him to return to Ukraine next week as part of his efforts to resume diplomacy and peaceful ways of settling the Ukrainian crisis.
