Police not going to arrest Automaidan activist Bulatov, says Interior Minister
The police will not arrest Dmytro Bulatov, an activist of the Automaidan mobile, car-based arm of the anti-government protests, as the court has changed the measure of restraint for him as part the criminal proceedings on the riots from custody to house arrest.
On January 30, Bulatov was found in a village in Kyiv region. After he was taken to the hospital, the police was called there. Given that the victim claims that he was kidnapped and beaten, investigators decided to place security guards in his ward, the Interior Ministry's press service quoted its head Vitaliy Zakharchenko as saying.
Two criminal cases involving Bulatov were opened, one treats him as a victim of abduction (Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), another as a suspect in criminal proceeding into the mass riots (Article 294 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), the minister said.
The minister noted that on January 24 Bulatov was put on a wanted list as a suspect. A court ordered his arrest and delivery to court for choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention.
"Once Dmytro Bulatov was found, taking into account his health condition the investigator filed a petition to court to commute the preventive measure from custody to house arrest. Police officers has had no chance to interrogate Bulatov as a victim, nor tell him that the measure of restraint against him has been changed, as the doctors do not allow to conduct investigative actions with the victim yet," Zakharchenko said.
The police still have no information about the nature and severity of injuries sustained by Bulatov, he said.
